چکیده

" La theorie c'est bien, mais ca n'empeche pas d'exister. " Emile Charcot Abstract In the first two of these lectures, I present the evidence for baryonic dark matter and describe possible forms that it may take. The final lecture discusses formation of baryonic dark matter, and sets the cosmological context.

Several lines of evidence suggest that some of the dark matter may be nonbaryonic: the non-detection of various plausible baryonic candidates for dark matter inferred, e.g., from galaxy rotation curves and from cluster of galaxy velocity dispersions, the need for non-baryonic dark matter for theoretical models of galaxy formation, and the large discrepancy between dynamical measurements implyin...

Reasons supporting the idea that most of the dark matter in galaxies and clusters of galaxies is baryonic are discussed. Moreover it is argued that most of the dark matter in galactic halos should be in the form of MACHOs and cold molecular clouds. 1 Talk presented by F. De Paolis at the workshop on " Dark and visible matter in galaxies and cosmological implications " (Sesto Pusteria, July 1996)

We present MOND analysis for several of the lowest mass disc galaxies currently amenable to such analysis–with (baryonic) masses below 4 · 108M⊙. The agreement is good, extending the validity of MOND and its predicted mass velocity relation, to such low masses. Subject headings: dark matter galaxies: kinematics and dynamics

The current state of cosmology is easy to summarize: a very successful standard model – the hot big-bang cosmology – that accounts for the evolution of the Universe from 10 sec until the present; bold ideas based upon early-Universe physics – foremost among them inflation and cold dark matter – that can extend the standard cosmology to times as early as 10 sec and address the most pressing ques...
